Workout today. 10x400m with 1 min rest. The first one was a little slow for some reason and we came through at like 73 but the rest were perfect. 70, 70, 69, 69, 67, 70, 70, 70, 65. I guess they are racing ten per team in the varsity race at Westlake which is going to suck, but it will give me an advantage over the Cole.

Just easy miles before Westlake tomorrow. we ran down to Art Dye and played this game that was kind of like handball but with a tennis ball on the soccer fields. Dyestat rankings came out today and WE ARE RANKED 13TH IN THE NATION.

Today was by far the best race of my life. We got ther at about three and it was freezing so Walton, Marc, and I went down into the basement of the school to wait for the two hours it was before our race. It was pretty fun, We found some huge speakers the football locker room so we were blasting some dodos. Walton lit some incencse and I think one of the AF guys thought he was smoking weed. When the girls varsity race started we went and warmed up then headed to the line. It was pretty cold, but not nearly as cold as when we got there and there was a decent wind coming at you down the home straight.

The race went off and I went out and through the first 800m worked into a good position right with Mike, Marc, & Jon. We just kept a good pace through the first mile where we came through at 5:18. On the loop around the big field by the other school that group kind of got away from me and I just tried to not let anyone pass me. I came through the second mile in 10:38 and moved up to pass Jon and get in right with these to Davis kids I just tried to hang on to them the whole last mile and eventually we caught Marc. Nut with 200m to go all three of them beat me. i came across in 15:45 though which is almost a 30 second PR! We put 6 runners in before Binghams fifth but they ended up beating us by 4 points. We did get Davis though!

I accidentally slept in today so after the second session of conference I went on my own run. I ran to Grove creek and back. Averaged about 6:27 pace overall for the 11 mile.

Today we ran to Art Dye and played that handball game again, and afterward we looped around on the fox hollow road. Me and Clayson went like two extra.

Today we had 12x400m with a minute recovery. They felt pretty good but there was a really strong wind coming at us on the homestretch. If there is ever a day where we do these and it's not windy, I swear I could go 65's on all of them. Splits were 72, 67, 68, 69, 70, 70, 71, 69, 72, 70, 68, 67. Afterward I went with Mike and Cole on a longer cooldown down to deerfield and back on the canal.

Today we had a speed workout on the track. I ran to the school and we did 800, 600, 400, 600, 400, 200. The weather was just right, it was cold but perfect while you're running. times were 2:29, 1:45, 1:09, 1:45, 1:09, and 30 seconds. Afterwards we cooled down on the golf course run and I ran home.

We are staying in Park City over fall break so I get a day of high altitude training! I don't know if one day will make a difference, but whatever. I went out for seven miles following this trail that runs alongside a small river that passes the high school, and the place where they hold the xc invite.  Overall averaged a 6:30 pace, but I was breathing quite hard. Especially on the last mile, because it was all steep uphill back to the hotel.

Today on our way back from Park City my mom wanted to stop at a bookstore in Salt Lake, so I went and did my workout at Sugarhouse Park. I did one loop of the state course to warm up, then did 2 min on and 2 min off for the next lap and did two more miles for cool down. The one hill at about the mile mark is a real toughie.

Last workout before region, 3x400 at 69, 67, 65. It was easy and I felt good but I don't like tapering. I feel like I won't run fast if I'm not working hard.

4 easy miles before region tomorrow. I'm pretty pumped, and I really think I can hang with Mike.  If I can be within a few seconds of him then I'll be able to hang with Binghams fourth guy Adam, and if I can beat him we have a second place trophy in the bag.

Today's race sucked. I was really looking forward to it, but my stomach was just raging the whole time and it just felt way harder than it should have been. The race went off and nobody was running very fast so when I went through the mile at 5:10 I was only 5 seconds behind the leaders. The second mile I just died. Coming around the tennis courts my stomach just clenched up and I just tucked in behind Jon. The two mile split was 10:36, which means the second mile was a 5:26 which is no good. The last mile I passed Jon and just ran with Mahonri all the way to the finish. Time and place weren't what I was hoping for but whatever, we qualified for state. We lost to Westlake, but Clayson was taking it pretty easy and we have the advantage in a bigger race. Now I just have to prepare myself for state.

We ran down to Art Dye and played the handball game that we invented again. Afterwards Cole and I ran to AF. On the way back we ran into my cousin Ashton and Joe Simmons from AF. They snuck out of their workout so that they could come play with us but they were too late. We talked to them for 10 minutes until their team came running down the trail. Timo was pretty pissed at them, it was funny.

After school we had 800, 600, 400, 200. The 8 was supposed to be at race pace but it was a little fast, so the times were 2:29, 1:44, 65, 29. I don't know how it's possibe, but there was wind coming at us on both sides of the track.

Last workout before state. 600, 400, 200. 600 was 1:44, 400 was 74, and 200 was 29. too easy. The 400 was at race pace and I felt pretty good on the other two. I really think I can get ahead of Bingham's fourth at state, and I hope that's enough for  a second place team finish.

Today was state. They excused us from school all day so I got to sleep in until 8:00! At 8:30 we went over to Mikes house for breakfast. I had half of a waffle and a banana along with a small bowl of mini wheats before I went over. The Bus came at 11:30 and there was like a huge sendoff from the student council with balloons and paint and stuff. We got to the course and lied down until the 4A race, when we started warming up. We ran around and watched Conner Mantz rage on everybody before we got our spikes and went to the line. We did some strides then lined up, but they were intent on starting us at 3:30 so we just sat there for a while before they finally let us go.

I got out decently, and was probably midpack up the road and on the top. I did a lot of moving and just kind of followed these three Davis kids as we weaved our way forward. Going down the steep hill on the West side I passed the Davis kids and went up the hill. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and I passed a couple people. At this point in the race I caught up to Mike, and we worked together moving down to the lake and got right up behind Jon. On the gradual hill on the far side we made a move and passed a bunch of people going down to the road. The only person that passed us the last half of the race was Skittles from AF, but they always just hammer the last mile. I was feeling really good until we got halfway around the lake for the second time, and I had to start really digging deep. Once we got onto the track I went past Jon and Mike, and I was trying to catch one more Davis kid but I couldn't quite get him. Jon passed me with about 20m left and got the Davis kid too. I came across in 16:19 and was so happy that I got my goal of 16:20.

We were waiting in the finishing area for the longest time waiting to see what we got while people were coming in. After Bingham's fifth came across it was official that WE HAD GOTTEN SECOND!!!! I can't describe how happy we all were, and I have never seen a more beautiful sight then our trophy being awarded to us. Final scores ended up being AF-44, Lone Peak-82, Davis-107, and Bingham-115. Afterwards we went to Pizza Pie cafe, and they gave us cookie monster on the house which was the most delicious thing I have ever tasted.

Ran with my new Kinvara 4's today and I like them a lot. We did 7 miles down into American Fork and back on the main road. I pushed the pace a little and everyone was getting annoyed with me, so I just kept slightly picking it up throughout the run. There was a beer bottle on the side of the road so I picked up and threw it at the fence. I got some on my hand which was annnoying because it smelled real bad, but the explosion it made was worth it.

Today we had 1600, 1200, 800, 800. It felt a lot easier then it usually does. For some reason on the field that we do it on I'm struggling to hit 2:40 800's most of the time, but today I felt smooth and good. Times were 5:13, 3:58, 2:32, 2:27. Afterwards we cooled down on the golf course.

Today we had two 7 minute thresholds in the middle of a 60 minute run. We ran west on the Murdock canal trail for 20 minutes then started the first one, had 3 minutes recovery, and did the second one. We were running on a part of the trail we had never seen before where it dipped down and just switchbacked for a long time, and came at the end of each interval of course.
