Met at 1 am for a New Years run with the team. We ran up to Lambert and ran through on High bench, then came down on grove. Some fatbikes had come through so the trail was perfectly packed. It was very cold outside, but I wore enough clothes that I felt perfect. I also had a pretty sick icicle beard when we got back.

Did you choose 15:22 just so you would beat clayson's time by a second?

I like the team goals. If we got 3rd at Nike regionals, we could end up going to nationals, which would be super cool.

From Adam Jensen on Mon, Jan 05, 2015 at 18:25:18 from 75.162.247.227

Yeah, Claysons time is the school record so I figure that it's a good time to shoot for. I think that the team goals are realistic and it would be sweet if we could go to nationals.

Didn't go to practice or anything cause I had a church ball game. Normally I'm not the type to blame the refs for losing, but this time they legit screwed us over. We lost by one on a last second three by the other team which shouldn't have counted because their coach called a timeout before he shot the ball, then they didn't give us the one and a half seconds left to try and respond, instead just ending the game. Very frustrating...but anyway, running. After the game I drove down to Provo to do my long run on the Provo river trail. 11.5 miles @5:57 pace. I was surprised I was able to run so fast comfortably, which could mean good things for indoor.

Ran the wall today. Didn't run a great time due to my sickness these past couple days, but whatever. On the way back I went with the three freshmen to check out the tube, and everybody left us so we did part of mountain run by ourselves. 6x100m strides when we got back to the school. I had to take my sister to her tennis lesson when I got home, so I ended up doing some extra on the treadmill to make up for yesterday.

Probably the worst run of my life. I was feeling decent for the first three miles, then when we mad it to the turnaround point about 4.5 miles out my stomach started hurting really bad. I told everyone to go on ahead, and I struggled my way back very slowly. I had to stop at some random persons house and ask if I could use their bathroom. I got back a long time after everybody else and didn't lift. Miserable run.

I didn't get a text in time last night moving our run forward an hour, so I ended up running hogs by myself. The trail going up is a popular one for fat bikes so it was nice and packed all the way up to the meadow, then some four wheelers had packed down the other side going down which made for smooth sailing throughout. Felt good the entire way and really just had an excellent time. When I got back to my car the guys had flipped it around and put lotion on the back of my steering wheel. Luckily I caught it before I got my hands all gross.

BYU indoor invite today. Lots of fun, I forgot how different racing in track is than racing in XC. I went to the first quarter of our church ball game (We won), then got in my car and booked it down to BYU breaking the speed limit by about 20 the whole way there. I got there and went straight to the bullpen, where due to not checking in I ended up seeded 25th in my heat. I got on the line on the third row with zero warmup, so I didnt have high expectations for the race. The gun went off and I tried to get hard to get good position, but it was of no use. I ended up running in lane three for most of the race. I slowly worked my way up throughout the race until I was in third at one point, then got passed by a couple dudes in the last 50 meters. Afterwards cooled down and talked to Blake, then went and got some lunch at Panda Express. I came back and chilled for a while before doing some warmup and going down to the bullpen for the 800. I didn't really know what to expect for this race, and I was actually pretty nervous. The gun went off and I actually got a really good start. I filed into second right behind Joe Benson from Timpanogos (cool kid bytheway), and just chilled there for the first half until someone passed us and got a bout a 3 meter lead. With about 150 to go I passed joe and tried to caatch the kid in front but I couldn't catch up and Joe ended up barely beating me. It was actually a lot of fun and it didn't even hurt real bad. Afterwards I cooled down with Joe and some guys from Davis for about three miles around campus. Overall a really fun meet and a confidence booster for these next few indoor meets. Shoutout to Justin for getting DQ'd in the mile, and Connor for a couple good battles in the mile and 800!

3200 today. I got there too early so I took a good nap and got a really good warmup in. The race itself went well, I was in the fast heat and it was a lot more competitive than last year. I came through the mile in 4:50 and was still feeling solid, but then just couldn't hold on the last few laps and faded pretty hard. Still a fun race though. I was half a second off my pr which is a bummer.

Ran up on Bonneville Shoreline today. I wasn't feeling good so I hopped down onto the canal and went to the bathroom, then picked up the pace and ran sub 6:00 pace for the four miles back to the school from there. As I was passing Deerfield a third grader told me to go lift some weights, and I couldn't come up with a witty response so I just picked up the pace and tried not to let it crush my self esteem too much. When I got back we did strength training, then afterwards we did a little extra and ice bathed.

Today at the beginning of track class Schoon asked us if we wanted to run with the soccer team who was running five miles, and we said sure. We did two laps of this big course around the school and pond, and finished in about 31 minutes. Afterwards we ran to Art Dye and back, then did 6x100m strides on the football field. For strength training today we did four sets instead of three and it was pretty brutal, but luckily we had chocolate milk after so it was all good. Utah Distance Challenge today. The past two years I've gone up by myself so it was nice to have teammates there this time. I went into this race with low expectations due to being sick and whatnot this week, so when they asked for people who have run under 4:30 to go into the fast heat I decided to decline and run in the second heat instead. The race started and I got out into the lead. I figured after the first turn people would come up with me, but nobody did. I ended up leading the entire first three laps, which sucked. On the last lap Talon Hull came past me amd I tried to hang on to him, but I was not able too. In the final staraightaway a bunch of people passed me which was a bummer, but I still ran a 4:33 which was faster than I thought I would run. Zack and Lil' Warner both ran big PR's running 4:32, and Jamison ran 4:36 which was cool. Everybody on the team PR'ed but me and Steven, but at least I paced some people to good times. Afterwards we cooled down, then did another cool down with Westlake which was fun. Overall when I look at it I think that when I'm not sick and I don't lead the whole thing, I think I am definitely in shape to run under 4:30 right now.

We had a hill workout today. We were supposed to do 6x600 hills, but I went out to hard at the beginning for how Ive been feeling lately and I ended up only doing four. My times were 2:04, 2:02, 2:06, 2:12. Terrible times but whatever. Later I realized I left my car at mutual so I did some estra miles on my way to go get it.

Ran up the canyon for 30 minutes then turned around. I felt super tired and weak while we were running so Justin and jamison both got way ahead of me and I ran with Trevor and Spencer for most of it. I was really struggling with strength training so Courtney told me to go home and sleep which was really nice.

Had a longer workout today. 45 minutes at sub 6 on the canal. I was actually feeling really good today which was awesome because I haven't at all the past two days. I was staying right on pace the whole time even with some pretty good hills over in the dip thingy in Lehi until about 5 miles in I had to go to the bathroom. Afterwards though I did the next couple of miles at right around the same pace by myself ( I didn't have a watch but it felt about what we were doing before.). Overall a good time.

We haven't gone on an adventure run in a while so we did one today. We went up to these majestic rock outcroppings on the side of the mountain. I thought they were really cool, but Craik only gave them a B grade. He is the expert though so I trust his judgement. There was also a reservoir thing surrounded by barbed wire that would be really fun (but very illegal) to swim in when it is warmer. Afterwards we did strength training with Courtney. The sprinters came in and did it with us and they were dying. Also shoutout to Zack for being #1 at ladders.

We did Hogs backwards today. Going up was kind of rough but for the most part I did pretty good. Coming down Lil' Warner and I started picking up the pace and for the last couple of miles we were going 5:10ish pace which was cool. Felt really good today overall, which hopefully translates to Monday for our progression run.

Had a good time up on Bonneville today. We only had 45 minutes to run before we needed to be back so Zack and I ran pretty quick. The weather was absolutely perfect and the trail conditions were just right which made for an awesome run. We averaged 5:56 pace on the 3.xmiles coming back which was kind of fun. Courtney never showed up to strength training so we just did a couple more miles and called it good.

Took the Act this morning. Didn't feel like I did very good on this one, but I got my score back on the one I took last month and I got a 30! Afterwards we were going to do a track workout, but it was covered with snow so we did a workout on the bikes instead. It was actually pretty difficult and everybody was sweating buckets.

Later I did 6.5 by myself on Canyon road. Also I improved my pr in the thing where you catch pennies off your elbow to 36.

Time trials today for the whole track team. Ryan only wanted us doing the 400, so we warmed up like a mile and a half then got in our heats. I was in the second heat and I ran 57 seconds, which is a new PR for me. Everybody did really good, and almost all the distance guys were under 60. Afterwards we did a short little workout of 800, 400, 800, 400. I felt pretty good on these and ran 2:17, 65, 2:19, 65. The 800's felt a lot easier than the 400's which was weird. Afterwards we icebathed down in Hidden Oaks.

Met at Legacy this morning for our run. Due to daylight savings it was still dark for most of our run, but it was surprisingly warm which was a nice surprise. We did an extended mountain run with a little extra loop around burgess. We didn't quite have the time so we needed so we ended up serpentining for about 3 minutes before we got back. Afterwards we did some pushups and squats.

Later saw two women running with 32 oz mountain dew's in their hands. Pretty sad moment for the sport of running.

Did a little extra at about 9. Felt really good and had awesome weather.

Dual meet with Lehi today. I was originally planning on doing the 4 and 8, but ended up pacing Justin in the mile instead of the 4. Ryan said that if I paced Justin I had to run at least a 4:45. I didn't really feel like going very hard today so I ran 4:44.8 which was exactly what I wanted. It didn't feel very hard, and I would have gone for the win but my left leg started cramping up in the last 200 and I backed off of it just in case. Justin ran 4:47 so my pacing duties were successful. A little later I did the 800. I went out too slow and wound up in second to last after 100 meters. My first 200 was a 34, and was my slowest in the race. After the 200 I started moving up and passed a bunch of people. With about 300 to go I moved into 3rd behind Connor and Sean, and held it until about 50 to go a couple passed me. I ended up getting 2:09 which isn't bad, but isn't good either. Once we start really hitting speed workouts I know I can get into the 2:02-2:03 range. Afterwards we went and did a quick little workout of 4x2 minutes hard with 1 minute rest. I felt sluggish on the first couple due to the 800 just before, but the last 2 felt good and we were going pretty fast.

Shoutout to Connor and Matt Todd for some good fun in the 800, and also to Preston Warby for wearing a Lone Peak shirt today.

The first lap went out slow and I came through in 68, everybody picked up the pace after that and we came through the 800 in 2:13. The third lap I kind of lost the main pack but still came through in 3:22 and was ready to throw down a 64 or something and PR. Sadly with 250 to go I started cramping up in my right leg and I only ended up running a 70 last lap and didnt PR. Oh well. Later I had the 800. I pretty much just started out in last and tried to hang on for dear life at the back of the pack. We came through in a 61 and I actually passed two guys coming around the turn, but with 200 to go I didn't have anything left in my legs and they passed me back and I brought it home in last place. I still ran a PR of 2:05 though, which was the first PR for me this season.

Got to the race today and learned I was in the slow heat. Because of that and the fact it was windy I really just didn't feel like going all out, so I decided to just take the first laps at a tempo kind of pace and kick the last 400. The gun went off and I tucked in so I was out of the wind on the first lap, and we came through in 70. Next lap was a 71 and I came through in 2:21. The 1200 split was 3:33-34 and I picked it up. I passed like 8 people and ran like a 65 for a 4:39. It was pretty fun, and definitely the easiest 4:39 I've ever run.

Got to the race at about 8:30 and sat around for a while before warming up. Gun went off and I got decently, tucking in with the chase pack. I just kind of followed those guys and we came through in 68, then 2:21, then 3:33, which were almost exactly my splits from yesterday haha. At the mile we came through in 4:45, and it was just down to me and Connor, with Zack Jacklin, Will Handley, and Joe Benson all a bit ahead of us. I just kind of sat behind Connor for the next two laps, then went ahead with 900 left and took us through until 400 to go he took off. I tried to hang on the best I could but my kick really sucked. I ended up barely outleaning Ryan Raff at the line who came up from behind really sneakily. It was a pretty fun race and my first PR in the two mile since this meet last year. I have been really off in my races lately so it was good to finally get back on track so to speak. I also know I can run the qualifying time next week at Davis or at BYU hopefully. Shoutout to Connor Baller because Timo kept mixing us up while we was commentating, and for pulling me to a PR. Pretty hard workout on the track today. It was 200, 400, 600, 800, 1200, 400, 400. I always hate it when the intervals keep getting longer throughout the workout, but it's good for me I guess. Times were 29, 65, 1:37, 2:18, 2:28(I got a side cramp 600 into the 1200 and had to pull out.), then 65, 65. Overall a good workout, especially with how hot it was. Afterwards we ice bathed up the canyon. Also I totally got a skateboard today, and I'm pretty pumped to go ride it right now.

Fun workout today, it was only 3 sets of 400, 300, 200, so it wasn't too hard, but it is always fun when we get to run a little faster. Times were 65, 47, 29, 63, 45, 29, 61, 45, 29. I felt pretty good, especially on the 400. Afterwards we went up to the mouth of the canyon to ice bath. We found some big logs and created a pretty cool little bench.

Ok race today. 5 minutes before it started the weather got terrible all of the sudden, so the entire race it was windy and rainy. The pace was really slow at the beginning, but because of that I had a good kick and actually outkicked Colton Rimman from Davis finally. I swear he always beats me by the smallest margins, so it was good to come out on top. The 4x800 was FREEZING, and I only ran a 2:12 splitting 63, 69 lol.

Fun workout, it was 400, 300, 400, 300, 400, 300, 400, 400 all at a little faster than mile pace, and we only had about a minute of recovery inbetween each interval. They ended up being closer to 800 pace, but I guess that's a good thing haha. Times were 46's on all the 300's and 64, 63, 63, 63, 62 on the 400's. Didn't really feel too hard, which is definitely a good sign for BYU. Afterwards we went and ice bathed in a river but kicked out of our original spot by an angry old lady claiming we were "trespassing", what does that even mean anyway? We ended up finding a better spot further down the river, so jokes on you old lady.

Super easy run before BYU tomorrow. I'm so pumped for this two mile. Out of the 12 5A guys running, 3 are from AF, 4 are from Davis, 4 are from Lone Peak, and theres 1 guy from Lehi. I don't think we've ever had more than one guy qualify, which is a good sign for cross country next year. I totes just shaved my legs for the race tomorrow, which should by itself take about 8 seconds off, so State qualifying is definitely within reach.

Killer race today. We got there super early so we just chilled and talked to Dom for a while before we had to warm up and stuff. After we got our hip numbers we did a bunch of strides and got lined up. The gun went off and I fell to the back of the race immediately. I came through in 68 then started moving up a little bit, and caught up to Lil' Warner. We kind of ran the rest of the race together and slowly worked our way up. My next few splits were 2:19, 3:32, 4:44, 5:55, 7:09. At this point I realized I was still on pace to qualify for state and made a surge on the backstretch with 700 to go, and passed Josh Thatcher and another guy. Josh kind of hit my back, but I think it was more of an encouragement hit than a mean one. Anyways, I came through with one lap to go at 8:24, and kicked as hard as I could. I passed Joe Benson, then just tried to hang on to Lil' Warner for as long as possible, but he pulled away on the homestretch. I ended up running 9:33, which was an 11 second PR, and I qualified for state! This track season has been kind of a bummer, so this race was a much needed breakthrough.

Lil' Warner and I had to take the AP Psych test today during practice, so we did the workout later with Lauren, Ellie, and Autumn. The workout was two sets of 400, 300, 200, with a minute recovery between intervals. It was crazy windy on the homestretch so our times all would have been 1 or 2 seconds faster probably on a good day, but we still ran pretty fast. Times were 62, 45, 28, 61, 45, 31. My legs wouldn't cooperate on the last 200, but I hit my goal times on everything else so its all good. I love tapering.

Ran the mile at region today. Got in a solid warmup then headed over to the line. It was windy, but nothing too bad, and I was feeling good, so I went in with high expectations. The gun went off and I just kind of went to the middle of the pack and tucked into the inside. The pace went out really slow, which generally isn't a good thing for me, but getting to the front and pushing the pace would have taken a lot of energy from where I was, so I just sat and waited. I came through the first lap in 70, and the pace just stayed there for the next 600. 800 split was about 2:20. Once we made the turn with 500 to go everybody all of the sudden just opened up their strides and the race began. The first 200 of the next lap everybody was still together, then with 200 to go Jamison and Lil Warner started pulling away and I tried to pass Thomas Heaps on the inside to go with them, but understandably he cut me off and I had to stop a little and lost some momentum. At this point I realized if I didn't move now I wouldn't qualify, and I turned it on. With 80 meters to go I moved into lane 2 to get around Ryan Raff and Thomas who were side by side and just went into an all out sprint. It came down to the final 40 meters but I was just able to outkick Ryan for the last qualifying spot in fourth! Final time was 4:30, which I was very surprised at considering how slow our first 1000 was, and my last lap was like a 63, so that was good. Lil' Warner won and Jamison got second, so we have four guys qualified in the mile. Afterwards I did like 40 minutes of cooldown. I am so pumped for state.

We were just supposed to run mile pace on the 400's and a little quicker on the 300's, then take the first 100 of the 200's at race pace and go all out once we hit the straight. Times were 63, 46, 28, 63, 43, 28. On the first four we came through the 200 in 34, then I overcompensated and ran a 29 on the next one lol. The track team is treating everybody who qualified for state to Texas Roadhouse tomorrow. Should be a good time. Also shoutout to Justin who jumped a 15'9" at JV Region today.

Ran the mile at state today. The weather was not ideal, and it was very cold and wet. We didn't start warming up early enough and got called into the bullpen after only a little bit of running around. We sat around for a bit, then went out to the line. I was in the third alley. The gun went off and I actually got a really good start, and after the turn I went into like third place. It didn't last too long, but I was in the top 8 for the first 400. I came through in 66, then kind of fell off the pack and ran with the Davis guys for the next 600. I came through the 800 in 2:11, then the 1200 in 3:19. Sadly at this point my legs kind of just froze up and felt like they couldn't move anymore, and I tried to kick it in, but just could not move. I ended up running a 69 second last lap and getting passed by a bunch of dudes. I still PR'd, but only by a half second running 4:29.04. I really felt like I was going to run 4:24 or faster, but I think the cold weather got to me, because my legs were just kind of numb on the last lap. Hopefully tomorrow is warmer.

Awesome race today. I came into today with high expectations, nothing but winning would be acceptable. I didn't have the best first can, but caught up to the pack after 100 meters, and never relinquished my lead. My second drink was average, and I ran a 70. Third drink was money and I ran another 70. I figured I would be ahead by a ton at this point, but Justin was hanging tough so I went into the last drink with determination. The last can was brutal to get down, and I puked hardcore, but I finished before Justin and ran a strong last lap to pull out the victory. Time was 7:21 which was a big PR, and pretty close to Marc's record, so it's going down next year. Winning this race has been a goal of mine since freshman year, so this was a great way to really close out the season.

Awesome hike today with my cousin. We drove up AF canyon for a while, then parked on the side of the road and started following this stream that led up into the mountain. There wasn't a trail, which made it kind of slow, but it was super cool. The canyon thing got really narrow at parts and there was a bunch of cool waterfalls. There was one sketchy waterfall that we climbed, but nobody got hurt so it was all good. Eventually we got up to this massive hundred foot waterfall coming off these cliffs and we couldn't go on, but it started hailing so we were going to turn around soon anyway. Good stuff.

Went biking in Steamboat Springs today. Went on a sick trail that was about 14 miles long. First 7 miles was about 2000 feet of climbing, and was pretty difficult. Not very technical, just steep. Coming down was awesome and I was flying until I hit a puddle that was a lot deeper than it looked and went over the handlebars. Luckily I landed in some mud so the damage was minimal. Easy shakeout in the morning with AF. Ragnar today!

My first leg was coming down from Snowbasin. Joe and Patrick had already done really good on their legs, and Mckay closed the gap alittle on josh Ward going up Snowbasin, so we were on a roll. My leg was 8.1 miles of mostly downhill, but there was still 500 feet of climbing so it wasn't too easy. I think I started out way too fast because the steepest part was right at the beginning, but it was really dark so it was hard to gauge pace. I kept a pretty hard pace throughout, but I honestly had no idea how fast I would come through. I was kind of surprised when I saw the exchange up ahead, and my watch only said 42 minutes. I ended up in 44 minutes, which was 5:25 pace, so not too shabby! Then I had to hop straight in a van and I could tell my legs were not going to appreciate it. I lost abouta minute too Stokton Smith on my leg, but I was pretty happy with it overall.

My next leg was at like 5 in the morning, and it was 5.5 miles around rockport lake. It was really pretty with the sun just thinking about starting to come up, but pretty cold. I averaged like 6 minute pace, so not very fast, but my legs were just not wanting to pick it up.

My last leg was interesting. Joe had just killed the massive hill, and Mckay had run an 8:40 two mile coming down from it, so I was pretty pumped up. I ended up going out way too fast and splitting like a 5:10 for my first mile. next mile was a 5:30, then things went downhill. It was like a bajillion degrees outside, and I hadn't eaten anything since midnight, and I started to really fall off the pace. third mile I was able to hang on for a 6:40, but on my fourth I bonked. I ran an 8:40, then a 9:10 last mile haha. I stumbled into the exchanged zone, and Patrick and Joe had to help me get to the van. The Ragnar people pumped some sugar into me via otter pops, and got me hydrated and out of the sun. After 10 minutes I was able to function again, but was still hurting. We drove to the finish and waited for Casey to finish, then hung around the finish area, and ate and got massages and stuff. We ended up getting third overall behind BYU and Davis. We actually hung out with the BYU guys quite a bit because they had a few guys from AF on the team. Fun stuff.

Fun run this morning. We went down by Bull River and got lost so we waded through the creek until we found our way out. Kept up a solid pace the first five miles, like 6:12 average, then slowed down after I got wet. Still sore, but low 6 minute pace has never felt so easy as it did this morning.

Later my cousins and I ran up to silver lake and back. 'Twas excellent.

Dope trail triple header up Big Cottonwood with my cousin today. We did three trails: Lake Blanche, Lake Mary, and Donut Falls. Lake Blanche was the longest and definitely the hardest being like 8 miles. The run up was pretty brutal, but we made it up in good time and saw three huge moose! about 2700 feet of elevation gain in the first 4 miles. After we got to the bottom we headed straight to Brighton ski resort and ran up to Lake Mary. it was only about 2.5 round trip, but it was super steep so it was still pretty tiring. The lake was dope and there was awesome cliffs for cliff jumping. The tallest one we found was about 40 feet high, and I got some cool GoPro footage jumping off of it. Lastly we ran up to Donut Falls. It was only a mile so we treated it as a cooldown. The waterfall was cool cuz it goes straight through the rock and comes out into a cool little cave at the bottom. The water was fridgid though, so I didn't jump in because the sun was going down.

Did the freedom run today in Provo. I got to the race and realized I had forgotten my bib and chip, so I didn't get an official time or trophy. The race started and I got out well. I just tucked in with the front pack and Jamison for the first mile. The front few guys started pulling away from Jamison and I when we hit the parade route, and when we hit about 2.5 Jamison dropped off hard and I was by myself for a while. I didn't have a watch to get my splits but they were way too fast the first 5k and I slowed down big time. Going in to mile four I was struggling, but then another high school kid passed me and I decided to just try and hang on to him. He had about twenty feet on me at one point, but I passed him with about 800 to go and tried to kick from about 600 out. I thought I had him until he passed me with 100 to go and I just didn't have it in my legs to speed up. I ended up running 34:08, so kind of close to my PR. I have had a cough all week though and I didn't have very much confidence that I would do well today so I was pleased to still run ok. Lil Warner started two minutes late and clocked himself at 32:50 ish haha. My goal now is to break 33:00 at Des News. Afterwards cooled down with The team and Zac Jacklin.

Went to practice but turned back early because me and Ashton are going to summit Mount Superior and Monte Cristo later. 6 total including running flyers before practice.

Later Ashton and I headed up Little Cottonwood. We got a late start and didn't make it to the trailhead until 7:00, but we just made sure to keep the pace honest and try not to take very many breaks. The first mile and a half wasn't very technical, but very steep and my calves were burning hardcore. Once we got up to the ridge running became impossible, and the last mile to the summit took about 45 minutes probly. Lots of Rock scrambling and climbing, which made for a fun time. We got to the top of Superior and saw that a storm was rolling in so we hurried over to the peak of Monte Cristo, then started scurrying back down the ridge. We made it back to the car right as we ran out of light, and it started raining. It was a good thing we hurried because getting caught on top of a mountain in that storm could have been pretty ugly.

We had a Fartlek sort of workout today: 5, 4, 3, 2, 1(minutes), with equal recovery. This is one of my favorite workouts that we do, and we do it quite a bit. The five and four both went well, we were under 5:20 pace even with some pretty good hills in the middle of both. The three we were cruising and were around 4:40 pace on, then the two and the one were both just ragin' fast. Seth looked really good throughout and Craik killed the last interval, and I'm thinking one of those two will be our fifth guy. Afterwards we cooled down for about three miles to get about 9 total.

Super fun race. I probably didn't prepare the best I could have, because I went to the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club concert the night before, and in typical Twilight series fashion I inhaled a lot if secondhand smoke and probably danced too hard. Anyway after the concert I met up with Jamison, lil Warner, and Justin and we set up our hammocks in a little grove of trees about 200 meters away from the start line. We woke up at five(four hours of sleep) and headed down to warm up and go to the bathroom. The gun went off and lil Warner and I got a decent start. After about a quarter mile we settled in with Alek Parsons and Garrett Barton from Ogden, and stayed with them for the first two miles. Alek had to stop and tie his shoe twice in the first mile haha. First three mile splits were 4:58, 10:00, and 15:20. At this point Alek and lil Warner started pulling away from me, and the rest of the race I was running by myself. I dropped off the pace in the next couple miles and just tried to hold on. In the last 50 meters I got out kicked by Ryan Raff which kind of irked me, but I was happy with my time, and it was a really fun race. Lil Warner ended up runnin 32:15, Jamison ran 33:39, and Justin ran 34:35. We got second in the team race behind Ogden, but I think we would have won if they scored five.

From Silver lake up there was no trail, so we just had to find a chute that looked climbable and head up to the ridge. The final ascent was all pretty sketchy rock scrambling, but we made it up fine. I've decided before I go on my mission I want to summit all the 11,000 footers on the wasatch. I've done 7 or 8, and ther is like 22 or something total.

I am not sure what the pace was exactly, but I think I was around 5:05-5:15 pace on the whole thing. Aerobically I felt great, now I just need to start getting the speed in.When we got back to the park we did 6x100 meter strides and ice bathed after at the mouth of the canyon.

Turned out we did 4x1k's instead of miles, but I was ok with that. 15 minute warm up while we put the cones in place and measured out the course. After the first one we realized it was .03 short because we ran like 2:51 so we moved it to where it was accurate. It would have been like a 3:00-3:02 though. Next two were 3:05 and 3:05, then the last one was a 3:02. We only did 4 because it was the first interval session of the season, but it felt like I could have done more. 5x600m hills today. Felt really good and hit much faster times then I ever have before. Times were 1:59, 1:58, 1:54, 1:55, 1:57. Stayed with Zack on all of them until the last one where he ran 1:52! Our entire top 6 was all averaging around 2:00 or better on all of these, which has never happened before. I don't want to get too excited this early, but I think this could be a very very good team.

6x800 on the grass field by the seminary building. Weather was a cool 69 degrees today which made for some fast times. We hit 2:28, 2:25, 2:23, 2:23, 2:20, 2:16. Felt really good today and everybody ran really well. Lil Warner came today and was able to keep up on all of them. The course turned out to be .015ish short so they were all about 1-2ish seconds fast, but still a great workout. Afterwards we hit up our usual ice bath spot at the mouth of the canyon. Dom and Emily came to the workout today. Dom struggled, but Emily was beating all the girls but Lauren and Amanda lol.

Grass Relays today! The day started off well for us with Craik winning the frosh soph race in an epic showdown with Bryson King, that came down to the last 50. We chilled until the Varsity race started, then I warmed up. Zack ran first and did decent. I think it would have been better to run me first and Zack last because it would suit our styles better, cuz Zack doesn't like going out fast and they went out very fast. He ended up in 10:31. Next was Justin who ran 10:35 and caught a few teams. Seth ran 10:38, and Jamison ran 10:28. Jamison got me into third place, and I was about 18ish seconds behind Will Handley from Timpanogos, and about 10 seconds ahead of Spencer Ford from Desert Hills. I basically ran in no mans land the entire time, lapping the occasional team, but really just grinding it out by myself. Will put a bigger gap on me, but I ended up widening our gap on Desert Hills, so that was good. It was pretty much just really hot and lonely, and I wish I had gone first, cuz I think I could have been around 10:10. I had no idea what time I ran, but I didn't get an award so I thought I was over 10:30, but then when results were posted it said I was 14th in 10:22! What the cuss Timo! Haha, anyways we set our new team time record by 2 seconds and ran the 8th fastest time ever, beating some very good Desrt Hills and Lehi teams in the process.

Shoutout to Connor Baller because he got cussed out of a plaque as well after running an excellent time of 10:18.

In the morning I was going to meet Walton for a run, but he slept in so I went by myself. Drove up the canyon and did thirty easy minutes on the ridge trail. An almost full moon illuminated most of the trail so I barely had to use my headlamp which was nice.

Later we had 10x400 on the grass field. I forgot my socks( a pretty common occurrence because I wear sandals to school everyday), so I did them all barefoot. I don't know if it was that, or if it was just my day but I felt REALLY good today. Times were 70, 69, 68, 67, 66, 65, 65, 65, 65, 60. On the last one Craik took off and I couldn't let him win that easy, so I went and raced him even though I wasn't supposed too. Afterwards we went to the mouth of the canyon to ice bath, but the girls had infiltrated our spot so we moved upstream to the dam. It's actually a lot better and you can jump in and fully submerge yourself.

Today we did an easy 6 with some strides. Nothin too crazy.

Around 10 I decided to go for a couple more miles, so I went out and 2 miles in I ran into Walton who was out running. I decided that tomorrow is just Pre Region, so I finished up with his run with him. We did a 5 mile loop up onto Bonneville and down on the canal. Even though he has put so many drugs into his body, and hasn't trained seriously in forever he was still able to hold a conversation easily at 6:50 pace the whole time. If he would have been serious in high school he could've really been somethin'. Anyway a good run overall, had a solid conversation about sk8ting.

Ran pre region today. Don't know my time so I'm not gonna put it in as a race report. Race went decent, went out slow and we worked together as a team and moved up throughout the race. In the last half mile everyone sped up and I just didn't have it in the legs, but everyone passing me was my teammates so I was good with it. We ended up going 4-5-6-7-9 and winning the race! We totally beat AF for the like the first time ever, and had a killer 1-5 spread. Good sign for BYU on Saturday.

Pretty good race at BYU today. We did a two mile warmup and headed to the line. The gun went off and I didn't get a great start. The whole first mile I was moving up and passing people, ran with Jamison for a while. The next two miles I was in anywhere from like 5th-10th and I was feeling good. Ran with Josh Thatcher for most of the last mile, but he ended up kicking away from me with 400 to go. Once I hit the track I tried to turn it on, but ended up getting passed by a bunch of guys. Kind of a bummer, but my kick will be there when it needs to be come October-November. We ended up getting fourth, but Zack and Justin both had bad races, and I think if they both felt good we would have right up with Desert Hills. Afterwards i did three miles with the guys, then two more barefoot with Lil Warner who ran in the college race and did well. We had three former knights in the college races today, which was kinda cool.

Shoutout to Desert Hills because I was running with either Spencer, Sage, or Josh the whole time, and they really pushed me.

One of my worst races in a very long time today. I wasnt feeling very good during the warmup, and I probably should have taken that as a sign to back off a little at the beginning, but I did the exact opposite. The gun went off and I went out way harder than I usually do. After about 400 meters I was tucked into sixth behind Alek and Garrett from Ogden, and Colton and Camren from Davis, while Garek was already way ahead. I stayed with those guys through about a mile and a half, then I just fell apart. I don't know what it was but I just felt like I couldn't move once we got into the big field with the hill in it. People just started passing me and there was nothing I could do about it. My last 800 was pretty ugly and I thought I was going to pass out. I ended up finishing, but in like 30th place. Oh well, better to get a bad race out of the legs now rather than later when the races really matter. I don't know how, but the team ended up getting third overall even without 2 of our top 5 guys (Zack and Justin didn't race), and me doing so terrible. I guess it is just extra motivation to run extra hard these next few races.

Fun race today. The format is different in that you have each of your varsity guys in 7 different races, then you add up scores to see who won. I was our second to last runner, and we won every race before me so that was cool. Gun went off and I went out in dead last. I moved my up throughout the first half mile and tucked in behind Addison Hedges from Weber, and just kind of chilled til the mile. The course was pretty hilly so I wanted to run it conservatively, and I think ran pretty smart. After the mile I surged down the hill and never really looked back. I just kinda maintained pace and ended up winning by more than 20 seconds. I got a cool shirt and we ended up winning with 8 points! The only person who didn't win their race was Jamison, but he only lost to Talon so it was good. I ended up with the second fastest time of the day behind Talon. Overall a good day. We also got new jerseys and they are soooooooo sick.

Bob Firman today. We got to the course early and chilled a while before warming up. The race started and I definitely did not get out well enough. We hit the turn and I was right in the thick of the pack. I almost stepped on a snake but I dodged it. The whole first 1200 was just crazy and dusty. I think I spent way too much energy dodging people and trying to move up, but when we hit the mile I was able to get out of the worst of it. Shoutout to Ethan Field from Skyview because he totally got shoved and ended up straddling one of the fence things about 600 in, but came back and got top 20, props. Anyway I came through the mile in like 5:02. The next mile I kept moving up and passing people, but I missed the clock so I don't know what my two mile split was. The last mile I tried to hang on to Jamison but he took off when we hit the beach, and I didn't go with him when I really should have. I hit the last hill and passed A few guys on the way down, then kicked it in. My kick was actually decent today, and I out kicked a couple pretty solid guys. I ran 16:07 which was slower than I wanted, but not terrible. I beat a couple solid guys like Colton Rimman and Garret Barton, but looking at results I really should have been top 20. Oh well. State today! We got there around 12:30 and chilled for a while, watched some races. We warmed up during the 4A race, and even got a little extra strides and stuff because someone parked their car on the course. The gun went off and I got great position. We were box 1 so going up the first hill I just chilled in the gutter and at the top I was already top10. Kept moving up and when we hit the big hill at about mile 1 I was in fourth and leading the chase pack with Casey, Connor, Adam Haynes, and a couple of my teammates. After mile 1 Camren Todd moved by me and I decided to take a risk and go with him. Going up the second hill I was still at the front of that pack, but then when we hit two miles things started to turn ugly. I tried to hang on to those guys but I just hit a wall mentally and physically. I started to fade and with 400 to go people just started passing me. Once Justin caught me I just told myself to hang with him and I ran with him until the finish and almost caught Dallin Leatham haha. I was pretty disappointed with my time and place, especially with how good I was doing with a mile to go, but I left it all out there so I can't be too mad at myself. I just need to race a little smarter during that middle mile, and mentally just grind out that last 800. Team got fourth, which was a bummer, but we were within striking distance of AF and Lehi if Zack and I race like we should have. This next month I am really going to buckle down and make these last couple xc races in my high school career count.

You mention the middle mile as what you need to work on. How about the first mile? You do that one more in control and it gives you the mental and physical energy to run the last one well. I'd say you were much too fast on the first mile, that impacts your last even more than the second mile.

Every person who has any knowledge of running is amazed by the stupidity of high school runners going out too fast. 90% of people in the first 800 have already messed themselves up by going out too fast.

Best race of my life today. Hands down. We got to the course and everybody was feeling good in the hours leading up to the race. We got a decent warm up then headed over to the lengthy introductions. The gun went off and I got out very well, top 20 at about 400 meters in. The pace was hot but I was feeling good and stuck in there. Came through mile 1 in 4:48 and felt smooth. The middle mile is where I fell off last year so I made sure to not let the guys I was running with get any kind of gap on me. Two mile split was 9:48. At this point I realized I was on pace to run really fast and was still feeling good so I passed a couple guys and filed in behind Camren Todd of Davis and tried to just hold on. Ended up passing a few more dudes and when we hit the final straightaway I was hauling to try and keep my position. Ended up finishing in 15:17 with Jamison right behind in 15:18. My goal coming into this was under 15:30 so I was ecstatic. We waited around for a while and did a good long cool down with connor Baller before awards. I got a cool third team All Region shirt and we got third as a team! Apparently there was a three way tie for first between us, Timpanogos, and Mountain Vista, then they went and looked at a photo finish which gave MV the win, and we lost on the sixth man to Timp. kind of a bummer since we were 1 point from winning the whole thing, but I definitely like our chances for the at large bid. Great, great day.

Race day! We got to the course amd chilled in the warmup area until the girls race, then went out and watched. We had to do these introduction things so we warmed up like thirty minutes before the race and then just chillled and kept warm. Race went off and I got horrible position. I definitely should have gone out harder because i was in the very back after 400. I moved up throughout the first mile and came through in 4:55, which was just about perfect. the second mile was tough, lots of mud and stuff, and i came through in about 10:15 I think. The last mile my legs were just dead from all the mud and i just tried to hang on and hold my position, and i ended up passing some people. The last hill right before 200 to go was rough but once i got over it i kicked pretty hard and held off a couple of guys charging in behind me. My time was 16:14, so not too fast, but I was happy with it considering how muddy it was. the team ended up getting 11th which was higher than anybody had us projected to get so that was cool. Utah had a great day with Casey and Alek going 1-3, and AF and Timpanogos getting 2nd and 5th. Afterwards went on a cooldown with all of the Soutwest guys. Talked to Joe Benson and Paxton Smith, and we all may be going to college together so that could be fun. Afterwards we headed back to the hotel with the heartland guys. That night was awards and the Southwest killed everyone on the guys side. We got back to the hotel then went to the dance from like 9 to midnight. I danced the whole time and by the time I was done I was more exhausted than I was after the race haha.

Mud always saps your strength. It makes a 5K more like a steeplechase. It takes speed and strength and stamina to get through mud. Your position after the first 400 doesn't matter as much as your last mile.

Great season. Enjoy the continuing progression.

Was only planning on going for 30 minutes, but once I got up on mountain run I was just having such a good time that I decided to do the whole trail. The snow was perfectly packed, and the the temperature was just right. Today was one of those days that where I felt like I could have just kept running forever, but I didn't want to overdo it so I stopped at 7ish. brought my GoPro and took some sick pictures.

Breaks over! Slept in this morning, so I ran by myself. Ran on the canal to where it goes under the road in PG then turned around. Nasty headwind going out, but it did make it nice coming back.

Right after I got back I went to the church to play some B-ball. We were short a guy so I called Connor Baller and he came out and played with us, so shoutout to him. My shot was way off, but I had a lot of good drives and rebounds and stuff. Fun day.

Ran up on Bonneville today. It dumped snow last night and today so it was pretty deep up on the trail, but it was a lot of fun. I was gonna go five, but then went up into the hills to scout out sledding spots. Most of them were too dangerous though, so I probably won't use any of them.

Slept in this morning, so I didn't end up running until almost 10 pm. It was a full moon so I went up to Bonneville and did a big loop down behind Deerfield. It was beautiful outside with all the snow, and when I got going it was very warm. Fun stuff.

Good run with the team through Lambert today. Snow was very deep and powdery, so the pace was slow but we were working. Didn't feel great, but made it through ok.

Didnt run, but did some intense snowshoeing that im gonna count. My cousin, uncle, and I snowshoed up to the summit of big baldy. The first mile wasn't too bad as we were going up dry canyon, but once we started going up the ridge it got very very steep. It took us three hours to go the first 2.5 miles. It was totally worth it though. We were going up through the clouds for most of it, and when we got to the top we were above them and it was one of the coolest/most beautiful things I have ever seen. Coming down was fun, and it was so steep i would just jump, sit down on the back of my snowshoes and slide like 30 feet.

that's where I wanted to go snowshoeing with Spencer on Saturday, but then he wussed out. And going up the ridge is very steep. Impressive.

We should go snowshoeing sometime

I told my wife yesterday that if I lived up here (slc or some other hideous place) I would definitely get into snow shoeing. Doesn't make a lot of sense in st geezy though.

Adam- We really should.

Spencer- I understand you're just getting back into running and your fitness levels aren't where you wish they were. But snowshoeing, if you go hard, is a good workout, and could really help you. It's difficult, but I think you could do it. We should go sometime this week.

Slept in and ran by myself later. Ran a loop up on Bonneville shoreline then down on the canal. The snow was packed down real nice by some four wheelers which was much appreciated. Bought a new headband today, I haven't rocked the headband in races since sophomore year, but I think it's time to bring it back.

Actually made it to practice today haha. We did black trail with a little extra at the end. Was a good time overall, and it wasn't too cold which was nice. Afterwards went and played basketball with the Lehi guys and a couple PG guys as well. I am wiped out.

Crazy run today. I went with Patrick Larkin from AF, and we went up to dry canyon to run. We got to the top of the canyon and turned left to go connect with Battlecreek and the snow got really deep. We kept going, and ended up accidentally following elk tracks instead of humans and ended up on top of the mountain to right of Battlecreek. The cliff was too steep to drop down into the canyon so we had to bushwhack down the ridge. It was pretty steep, really overgrown, and we were going through like four foot deep powder at times. It took us a while and I was starting to get worried that there wouldn't be an opportunity to drop in, and we'd be stuck. We were out of the sun and it was getting really cold. Eventually we got to a little gully and we just went for it and dropped down to the canyon floor. Really steep and sketchy but we made it. When we got to the bottom we were in a lot of pain from the cold and hitchhiked back to my car in Orem. Fun stuff.

I got lost-ish on a snowy run up there and had to poop in the forest twice. TMI sorry. I'll bet you went down one of the gullies that my friends and I have climbed up. It would be very scary to go down one of those in the snow. Good job.
