Freedom run 10k today! Got to the race and warmed up for about 10 minutes then headed to the line with Jamison and coach. All the Lehi guys were there, as well as Jiree and Jiraa so I figured the 16-19 age group would be competitive. Was thinking of running conservative the first few miles, but when the gun went off I decided to just go for it and see what kind of shape i'm in. There was the lead pack a bit ahead of me with all of the college runners in it, and then the high school guys in a pack behind me a little ways. I ran by myself the whole first mile, came through in 5:06 then a kid from California came up and passed me so I just tucked in behind him for the next mile. Mile two was also 5:06. At this point another guy with a man bun came up and ran with us. Mile three was 5:12, so 15:24 for 3 miles. Here the California guy dropped off and I just tried to hang on to man bun guy. Mile 4 was 5:13 I think. At this point I was really starting to hurt and the slight uphill on the turnaround was killing me. Coming back around I saw I had a huge gap on everyone besides Connor, and it motivated me to keep pushing. Mile 5 was 5:30 then we turned up onto the last uphill mile to the finish. I was dying and just tried to hold Connor off, but with about 300 to go he passed me and I just kinda gave up. Finished in 33:14 for 8th place, and second in my age division. Last mile was like 5:53 haha, but overall I was very happy with the race. Shoutout to everyone who ran, twas a most excellent time.
